Google has updated its Maps platform in order to allow users to connect with brands using search marketing quicker and easier, marketingpilgrim.com reports.
The search giant acknowledged that more users than ever are taking to their mobile devices in order to connect with businesses online. As many of these devices come equipped with the Google Maps platform, it has made the process easier for users seeking out geographically-based information.
The update includes Google redesigning its local ad formats, which it claims have already shown measurable results.
During initial testing, Google claimed the new format increased click-through-rates by 100 per cent. Furthermore, the process of finding then contacting a business was made quicker and easier.
The new format includes more prominently-placed calls to action, such as ‘get directions’ or ‘click to call’. There is also a new hyperlocal marker to show users how close they are to a business as well as a feature which takes the user to an advertiser’s website within the app.
Taking to Google’s adwords.blogspot.co.uk site to make the announcement, product manager for mobile ads, Jay Akkad, explained: “Mobile technology is enabling people to connect with businesses in new ways via smartphones and tablets.
“People use search and click to businesses websites, but they are also clicking to make phone calls, find directions to walk into local stores and more. We’re looking forward to further understanding mobile usage trends and helping businesses better connect with their customers on the go.”
