With the web expanding and
evolving at a faster pace, web services are getting more and more usable,
public and complex. The most used connection technology for these web services
is Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). SOA is the gathering of few services
that communicate with each other either in the coordination of two or more
services or in data transfer.

Web services provide a
standardized means for integrating web-based applications running on diverse
frameworks and platforms using XML, Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP), Web
Services Description Language (WSDL), and UDDI open standards over an internet protocol.

In general, a web service is
provided by an electronic device to another same device with World Wide Web as
a communicating media. And the primary elements of these services offer
genuine service and messaging. As more of the web services are dispersed over
various applications and networks, they must undergo testing to get rid of
additional risks in the areas of integration and interoperability. However, to
reduce overall testing efforts, we can go for Automation Web Services Testing.

Just imagine a day without mobile in your hand. Highly impossible, right? Yes, from past few years the impact of mobile applications and its development has been high on many businesses especially on e-commerce and is also expected to be more dominant in the coming years. It is predicated that the usage of mobile data and apps will increase by 90% in the next few years. This advent of smartphones and growing progress in usage of internet in the mobile phones has made many businesses to adopt for current changes that affects companies’ performance specifically in the development of mobile web.

Most buyers today are on-the-go and are busy with their hectic schedules, so aspires to access the things they require with just a single tap on their mobile phones. This eventually made mobile application development companies to face a stiff pressure of putting full efforts for developing a mobile application that cater to the different needs of a user and give an exciting experience.

For your reference, here is the succinct accumulation of the hot sensations that will have a great impact on Mobile Application Development programs.

Mobile Application Development

Hybrid Application Development

Hybrid app is a web application built by using JavaScript and HTML5 and wrapped in a container to load lots of information as the user navigates the pages. And the demand for this application is expanding immensely on the online shopping side. Entrepreneurs who wish to market their products or services in less than six months can better opt for this alternative as it is built in one source code and requires very less time for development compared to the native applications.

iBeacon with GPS Technology

This new innovation has been put forth to obscure the difference among both the online as well as the offline modes. We have already come across the new offline mode of YouTube this years. iOS gadgets along with the android phones already had this innovation. As per the sources this new update has benefited many of retail and travel firms like Uber.

Cloud Computing

With the growing demand for cloud services, developers are very keen to make good use of cloud based applications to meet the basic requirements of a user and help them coordinate and match up versatile applications to different gadgets. Also, helps in the empowering of advancements like AL, LoT and advanced wearables for different functionalities.

Proper Navigation

Whenever we talk about mobile applications, they have to be very easy to install and efficient to use. Else, unfriendly navigation can make potential users to uninstall the app and improve your app bounce rate. So always target for providing better user experiences to enhance new business opportunities.

Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence

Augmented reality applications are one amongst many trends we can see today. AR which creates a new virtual world with the combination of real world as well as the reality has already shaken gaming world with Pokemon GO, a widely popular mobile game. And with the addition of wearable into the virtual world, AR tools can create a magic by making them used effectively not only in gaming sector but also in other sectors like retail shopping, restaurant business, automobile industry and more.
Today,
the creation of an eye-catchy website is the inherent part of any
organization’s marketing strategy. If it is not done so, a website owner may
not be able to get more advertisements to his/her business. With the increase
in the number of websites and count of individuals accessing the apps on the
phone, the need for website designers who can develop catchy and visually rich
websites is also growing day by day.

One
of the major parts of designing a website is the creation of attractive and
functional user interface design.

It
is a part of a program that helps a user to interact easily with the system.
The easier and the better the interaction, the more the returns from a user
that we can expect. Hence, a well-designed user interface plays a vital role in
making the product or website function more optimally and enhance the
experience of a user.

User
interface designers are concerned mainly about how the product is being laid,
which means they focus primarily on designing of each page or screen where a
user interacts more. Also, are responsible for documentation which permits
other users to maintain their codes. Here the output of UI developers will be
testable, functional and shippable that lets a user accomplish their targets
quickly while accessing an application.

Web
services provided by this evolving cloud computing platform are sometimes
called as remote computing services or cloud services. Two of the most
prominent services of AWS are EC2, that offers virtual services and S3 that
provides storage capacity. Aforesaid services can be used for replicating your

AWS support is one of the swift response support channels which plays a key
role in offering Amazon Web Services products and features. In general AWS
support has four tiers such as Basic, Developer, Business, and Enterprise.
Basic tier is meant for gaining fine cognizance on account and billing issues
and services. On the hand, the other three are used for handling the technical
support cases.

I've been exploring different methods of structuring my ColdFusion applications and I'm looking for some opinions on the best way to provide application wide UDFs.
For each of my apps, I generally use a bunch of extra functions that don't really belong in any particular object. Data manipulation stuff mostly. I want these functions to be available throughout my application, both for use in CFM templates and in Application instantiated CFCs.
The way I see it there are various methods of achieving this, but they all have their own limitations:

Instantiate a base Utils CFC in the Application scope. This is the method I've used most often. All the functions are available app wide, but if I instantiate the same CFC from multiple applications then they'll each have their own application scope - meaning that each has to instantiate their own base Utils CFC. There's nothing wrong with this but it feels like I'm not encapsulating the CFC well enough.

I'm not keen on referencing the Application scope from within the CFC.

Create an base Utils CFC and make every other CFC extend this. This works fine, and it means the CFC can reference the Utils functions directly from the CFC's THIS scope - However it means the Utils functions are kept in memory for every CFC. It also doesn't sit right conceptually as my other CFCs have no relationship with the Utils CFC.

Inject my base Utils CFC into my other CFCs. Another method I've been playing with is instantiating my base Utils CFC in the Application scope, but then passing that as an object to an argument in my other CFCs. This works for me conceptually, and for encapsulation. In the same way that I'll set up my datasources in my init method, I can do the same with my UDFs. This has the same issue that the UDFs are included in each CFC. When I dump all my CFCs I get each UDF multiple times - however as I'm passing an instantiated object, I'm assuming that it's not taking any extra memory space. If anyone could confirm that, it'd be helpful - I'm just assuming! The only real problem I have with this method is that it seems a bit convoluted.

Have my Application CFC extend my Utils CFC. This is what a lot of frameworks seem to do. I've not used this method, but I'm sure there are pros and cons.

CFInclude my UDFs from separate templates, directly in Application.cfc This is functionally similar to instantiating in the Application scope.

Add my UDFs to the server's
Components.cfc
It's a great idea in theory - I can maintain one copy of the base Utils and be sure that everything on the server can access them - However, if I want to run apps across multiple servers then they'll all need those functions. Plus any update to the server may overwrite the components. It just feels like hacking the core - which I'm sure we can all atest from bitter experience, is bad.

So - my question is this: What is the best practice for extending CF with UDFs in an elegant and reusable way? Any of the above options or something I've not thought of?

Here are four basics in social media that businesses both large and small should always revisit.

Twitter conversations ‘behind your back’

The ‘backchannel’ generates stupendous interest from Twitterati. Even as CEOs and marketing VPs delivered presentations in lofty air-conditioned halls, and on-road advertising campaigns ran in full swing, simultaneous Twitter conversations on these events/presentations/launches (‘backchannels’) took this social media platform by storm. In essence, the backchannel conversations were aiding publicity and marketing. And of course, marketing teams jumped on the bandwagon, using Hashtags and forming dedicated Twitter teams to initiate and encourage discussions. Lesson to learn? Leverage the Twitter backchannel to create excitement and awareness about your brand.

Viral ads and the trend towards greater visualization

Instagram and Pinterest made a huge impact in 2012, pointing to the growing trend of greater visualization in social media platforms. Content, of course, continued playing an important role in social media campaigns and the demand for writing services did not abate. But the emphasis was also on a ‘lot of watching’. Attention-grabbing and even bordering on controversial, quite a few ads posted by businesses on YouTube went viral. Oreo’s ad was just one of the handful, and was extensively shared on Facebook and other sites.

Memes added creativity and fun

Memes add to the entertainment factor of social media marketing. They make businesses appear less stiff and more personable. Once again, in line with the trend towards greater visualization, memes manifested themselves into pictures and videos. Virgin Media’s ‘Success Kid’ and Hyundai’s ‘Pomplamoose’ were just two of the many much-talked about memes that the young, Twitter-friendly crowd whole-heartedly enjoyed and embraced.

Marketers leverage the added customization options offered by social media sites

LinkedIn’s gift to member businesses in 2012 was more flexibility to add images and greater control over the how corporate images could be presented. If you don’t already have a LinkedIn page or you overlooked this new custom option, think about how best you can reach out to customers or businesses in your niche with more compelling images. Facebook also added newsfeed updates that enabled marketers to leverage ‘targeted updates’ to engage users based on location and the industries they follow.

20 Ways To Get More Website Traffic This Year (Ethically!).

Looking for a few ways to attract website visitors in the new year
without compromising your ethics or stooping to spam techniques? Give
any of the following options a try:

1. Focus on content creation.

Good content markets itself. When you put the effort
into building and promoting great pieces of content, the natural result
is more traffic to your website via shares and referrals.

2. Add social sharing buttons to your website.

Don’t assume that your readers will take the
initiative to share your content on their own. Instead, make it easy for
your site to accrue more visitors from social networking sites by
adding social sharing buttons to your company’s blog posts.

3. Answer questions on social networking sites.

When you see people asking questions online, provide
whatever helpful information you can. Doing so will earn you both
website traffic and customers for life.

4. Distribute press releases for actual achievements.

While you shouldn’t abuse press release distribution
websites to promote insignificant accomplishments, take advantage of
this traffic stream whenever you have something noteworthy to share.

5. Use SEO responsibly.

Don’t over-optimize your website, but do make use of
current SEO best practices (which put the emphasis on looking
“natural”) to let the search engines know where they should list your
site in the natural search results. High rankings will result in plenty
of new visitors to your website.

6. Invest in your website’s blog.

By publishing high-value posts consistently, you’ll
build your relationship with your readers, resulting in visitors who
check back frequently to view your latest posts.

7. Share slide decks and other presentations.

Posting informative materials to sites like Slideshare and Scribd will help you to increase both brand awareness and website traffic through exposure to new markets and new potential customers.

8. Build a killer email newsletter.

When readers find valuable email newsletters, they
tend to share them with others. If your current email followup sequence
is lackluster, making improvements here could result in significantly
more referral traffic.

9. Publish a helpful podcast.

Similarly, producing a regular, high-quality podcast
will increase referred website visitors, while reaching new visitors
through podcast directories.

10. Deploy infographics.

Infographics get shared more often than most other
types of content. This makes them ideal candidates for traffic
generation campaigns that make use of content marketing.

11. Run a YouTube channel.

YouTube is one of the web’s largest search engines,
making it a great way to expose new audiences to your brand. As an added
bonus, your videos may be listed in Google’s blended search results,
leading to even more traffic!

12. Ask visitors to share your site with others.

Simply asking your visitors to forward your articles
to others or share them on their social networking profiles is a great
way to quickly boost page views.

13. Write guest posts for top industry sites.

Ask other websites in your industry if you can pen
guest posts for their blogs. Having your content featured there isn’t
just great for traffic – it’s a good way to build your perceived
authority as well.

14. Connect with influences in your niche.

Having an authority figure in your industry share
just one of your blog articles can result in a tremendous amount of new
traffic, subscribers and buyers, so make relationship building a key
part of your company’s marketing strategy.

15. Pay attention to up-and-coming social networks.

Newer social networks like Tumblr and Pinterest are
sprouting up all the time. Because there can be a significant “first
adopter” advantage to the people that establish a presence on these
sites early on, keep an eye out for these future opportunities.

16. Eliminate website errors.

If the search engines aren’t able to index your
website properly (which can occur due to a number of different errors),
you may not be receiving all the search traffic you should be. Check
your Google Webmaster Tools account for information on common problems.

17. Add pillar content to your website.

Every website should have at least a few pieces of
“pillar” content — in-depth, well-written content that will always be of
interest to readers — to help drive traffic via person-to-person
sharing.

18. Over-deliver on your company’s products or services.

From a word-of-mouth traffic standpoint,
over-delivering can’t be beat. When you go above and beyond in your
industry, customers will recommend you to others – leading to more
traffic and a higher marketing ROI.

19. Interview experts within your industry.

People love hearing from experts, so if you can snag
an interview and publish it on your site, you’re in for a big surge of
traffic from the authority’s existing audience.

20. Comment on other websites.

Leaving valuable comments on other websites’ blogs
can be a great way to build traffic back to your own site. Just be sure
to say more in your comment than, “Great post!” or “Thanks for sharing!”

Facebook.com: This social media giant is a great place for travel agents to start to build an audience. The platform is based on the concept of interacting with "friends" -- people who already know you or who know people who know you -- creating a growing network of potential clients. Because it offers the ability to comb through your email for potential friends, Facebook is the quickest way to start a following. If you have already established a personal Facebook account, consider creating a separate, more public account that can be viewed by anyone on the service.

Twitter.com: Based on the concept of creating networks of "followers," Twitter is not the easiest platform to understand, but with a little insight gleaned from training and practice, it can quickly become a travel agent's most efficient tool for creating a network and communicating with members of that network.

Instagram.com: Do you use a smartphone or tablet? If so, make sure you get this free app for photo sharing. Travel agents can take photos or use photos already on their mobile devices, customize them, then share them by linking this app to their other social networks.

Pinterest.com: This platform is a match made in heaven for agents. Travel sellers can appeal to people's dreams by employing Pinterest's visual environment to create "pinboards" of content that appeals to travelers. Members control their own pinboards and share images that are "pinned" to their boards. Links to pins can be shared on Facebook and Twitter to increase impressions.

YouTube.com: Among the best-known and most widely used social media platforms, YouTube enables members to upload, edit, share, comment on and "like" video content. Travel agents can increase audience reach to attract potential clients and improve their presence on search engines by posting their videos to YouTube.

Google+: This social network is Google's version of Facebook and Twitter. Travel agents should at least tinker with this platform. Though you're no doubt crunched for time and wondering how you will ever be able to keep up with all the platforms, you should, at a minimum, share photos of your favorite travel products on Google+. Ideally, you will use it to plug links to offers and content on your website while you wait for your friends to show up and "hangout," a Google+ feature.

Flickr.com: Upload your travel photos to Flickr, an online photo management and sharing application that interacts with your other platforms. For example, you can "pin" your best Flickr shots to Pinterest or add them to your Facebook page.

LinkedIn.com: This is the premier business-to-business social media platform. While you are probably more interested in business-to-consumer relationships, cultivating your network of business connections is a good investment of time. LinkedIn is also a great place to network and find groups that can help you grow your bottom line.

WordPress.com: If you don't have a website that enables readers to leave comments and to drive clicks from social media sites, consider opening a free WordPress "blog," essentially, a place to store all your shared content online. Photos, videos and product reviews need to be stored somewhere permanently online where they can be linked to all your other social media platforms. Done right, your blog will attract a wide audience who will leave comments -- the ultimate social network.

If you are one of the holdouts who has been secretly hoping social media would go away but was also drawn to its possibilities, read on: I will be sharing best practices with the readers of Travel Weekly to help you discover what the buzz is all about. I have more than 20 years' experience as a technology trainer, and I have been a travel agent, so I can help you get a jump-start in ways that are specifically relevant to your business.

In this day and age, social media must become part of a travel agent's marketing plan. Along with direct mail, cold calls, trade shows, client-appreciation parties and websites, travel agents need to be ready to integrate social media into their marketing strategy.

The difference between all those other marketing tools and social media has to do with the tone and purpose of the message. Social media are tools to help prospects and current clients get to know you better and to introduce you to potential new clients. While traditional marketing techniques are aggressive calls to action, reserve social media to help strengthen relationships.

One key reason to use social media is that a lot of your customers already are. Relationships are the cornerstone of your business, and consumers aren't afraid of sharing online, which means you could be losing opportunities to maintain relationships. Your customers and potential clients are engaging online, and they will continue to engage that way, with or without you.

You owe it to your business to see what is happening in social media, and if you can, you need to get in on the conversations, playing the role of an unbiased third-party expert, the voice of reason. Although this might not close a deal, you will establish yourself as an authority about your travel niche, and that is great public relations.

Travel agents I have met are social by nature, which is a key ingredient to developing a social media presence. Moreover, agents are passionate about their travel niches, knowledgeable and ready to answer questions. Social media offers a way to harness that outgoing enthusiasm and share it online.

In addition, you can use social media tools to track what people are saying about you and your company, generate publicity about upcoming events and to promote yourself, in addition to sharing links to hot deals (although it's best to keep the deals-and-discounts aspect to a minimum).

Getting started

Social media refers to content that is shared online with and among groups of people. The content, which can be text, photos, audio or video, is posted to social network platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. Each takes its own unique form, offers its own way of communicating with various parts of your business universe and therefore represents potential for interaction between you and friends, customers and potential prospects.

Whatever the platform, keep it simple. Post photos from your travels, site inspections and fam trips. Comment about favorite destinations. Follow with updates that reveal your personality and business knowledge.

Before you get online

To start things off, I've assembled a general overview for jump-starting your online marketing strategy. In subsequent columns I will focus on specific platforms and offer suggestions about how to get started as well as shortcuts and tips to turn newbies into power-users. For now, here are the basic beginning steps:

Find a flattering headshot of yourself (preferably smiling), and use it on all your sites as a sort of avatar, a consistent visual image by which others will recognize you. This will help with branding and reinforce the impression that you are everywhere.

For uniform messaging, create a short bio and use it on all your social networking profiles. Write your bio using links and keywords that best describe your business for search engine optimization, or SEO, which will help people find you online.

Research your competition's online presence and determine which among them is best employing social media. Which competitor seems to be everywhere, mixing it up with your target interest groups? You'll learn a lot from this exercise.

Using email or a newsletter, create an informal poll asking your current customers what social networks they prefer, then use the results to determine where you should spend your time online initially.

Discover what trade media, associations and suppliers are doing online to interact with travel agents and consumers. Look for clues about how each relates to its audience and which might be potential strategic partners.

Begin engaging. Monitor what is happening online and get comfortable leaving comments.

Now, armed with this intelligence and experience, determine which of the following social media platforms best suit your business needs:

1. What is the difference between Outsourcing and Offshoring?

Offshoring is simply one of many choices you have to make when outsourcing – and just one subset of the outsourcing process. The first decision to make is either a) to keep a certain company function and those skilled enough to perform that function in house, or b) to outsource it to a company that specializes in that area of expertise and is optimized to deliver that function cost-effectively.
Call center staffing is a perfect example. Most call centers are staffed with large numbers of people with similar profiles. Turnover is typically high and keeping a call center staffed often requires an ongoing hiring program that’s able to identify and bring on hundreds of people with similar backgrounds on pretty much a continuous basis.
Because of the arduousness of hiring and training, many companies prefer not to assume the costs and administrative burden of keeping their call centers staffed by in-house recruiters. Instead they “outsource” the work to companies that are experts at staffing call centers and who do it at scale. Only after deciding to outsource does a company begin to consider whether to use a domestic or offshore resource to deliver the service.

2. Why would a company chose to use either strategy?

For most companies both outsourcing and offshoring come down to answering the very basic question of “What is the goal?” If the company’s objective is purely cost-driven, then offshoring to a company in the Asia Pacific region (APAC) may be a simple solution. If cost is part of the equation, but the more important driver is “quality,” we’re seeing a shift to domestic outsourcing, where ease-of access and the lack of language and time-zone barriers make it easy to keep a close watch on quality control.
If there are issues regarding brand equity or reputation in the mix, domestic outsourcing is rapidly becoming the only option. For instance, a lot of basic call center work that was being done in India just a few years ago is moving back to the U.S., even though it’s usually more expensive here. Companies seem to be figuring out there is a direct hit to the cost of their reputation when American customers become frustrated with cultural and language differences experienced with call center representatives. These issues weaken the company-customer relationship – negating the on-surface savings that were the reason for offshoring in the first place.
Another factor in deciding whether to outsource is the generally negative public sentiment of being identified as an “outsourcer.” This stigma has led many companies to bring their outsourced functions back to domestic providers. They’re still outsourcing, but without the cultural and language differences highlighting the fact that the function has been outsourced, it can easily go unnoticed by customers. This helps avoid the damaging hit to the brand, negative perception of customer service and political fallout, and if the company desires it, avoid public awareness of the use of outsourcing at all.

3. As an outsourced hiring agency, what trends have you been noticing in the hiring process?

We are a recruitment outsourcing company that employs its people onshore instead of offshore. At Seven Step we see a trend of companies bringing jobs that were once offshored to foreign companies for savings back to the U.S. because the cost benefits abroad are no longer as great. Because the cost advantage has lessened, companies are now looking at their quality and customer experience and recognizing that the branding exposure and risk of offshoring may outweigh the benefit. Therefore, manufacturing, call center and even software development jobs are now making their way back onto U.S. soil.
Companies are likely to still outsource to specialty manufacturers, call center management companies or recruitment process outsourcing (RPO) firms, but would prefer that those delivery centers be based in the U.S. Recruitment Process Outsourcing was one of the last disciplines of the broader outsourcing business to gain general acceptance. Today, most companies, especially the larger ones, or those that tend to hire large numbers of people with similar profiles, have some or all of their recruitment strategy outsourced to providers like ours.

Q3 2012 third-party reports cite healthy increases in SEM spend and better advertiser returns on Yahoo! and Bing
Recently, several of the leading SEM agencies and technology providers published Q3 reports on the digital marketing and advertising landscape in Q3, reporting on search and several other areas.
Since these companies manage a large number of accounts across a fairly broad cross-section of industries, their findings are typically a good gauge for how the search advertising market is trending overall.
You can check out the full reports from Kenshoo, Marin Software, Covario, Ignition One, The Search Agency and RKG, but here are some of the highlights:
Most reports cited an increase in search spend anywhere from 13% to 29% year over year, partially driven by an overall increase in click volume.

Kenshoo noted that click-through rates on the Yahoo! Bing Network were 29% higher than Google.
Marin found that Yahoo! and Bing are continuing to show solid growth in aggregate click volume, with an increase of 9% year over year, as well as a 9% increase in click-through rate.
The Search Agency found that the "…search industry overall is continuing to thrive. Over the last quarter we've seen higher quality traffic on Yahoo!-Bing, driving advertisers to invest more in the growing search engine."
According to Covario, growth in paid search advertising was up 33% in the third quarter compared to a year earlier, and up 6% over Q2 '12.
But we think Kenshoo put it best when they said that the Yahoo! Bing Network is a "must buy" and citing a higher click-through rate than Google., as well as delivering consistently better ROAS.

SEO can be, at times, overwhelming to its practitioners. After all, there’s nothing easy about designing and carrying out an effective link building strategy, or about adjusting any of the dozens of on-site variables that play a role in your website’s natural search performance.
Considering how prevalent this mindset is, it’s important to take a step back every so often in order to focus in on the short-term techniques that can be carried out in order to bring about positive SEO results as quickly as possible. Image optimization is one of these processes, which can be completed in a few hours or less, using the following steps:

Step #1: Obtain Images From Legit Sources
Before you can even begin the on-site image optimization process, you’ve got to find the images you’ll use in your blog posts, Web articles, and design files. And here’s the deal: Despite what some unscrupulous webmasters would have you believe, simply popping over to Google Images and searching for image keywords that turn up the type of pictures you’re looking for aren’t effective image sourcing!
Be aware that doing so may put you in violation of Internet copyright protocols, which assign all creative rights to image artists—unless the artists themselves choose to release some of these rights under the Creative Commons license. If you’re caught with unlicensed imagery on your website, the original creators of these pictures are well within their rights to ask you to remove the images and to pursue legal action seeking damages if you fail to comply.
So, when it comes to sourcing images for your website, you’ve got two options:
Pay for stock photography through sites like Fotolia, iStockPhoto, or PhotoXpress.
Use images to which the original artists have released some rights to webmasters.
If you choose to go the second route, you’ve got a few different options for finding images that have been released for use under the “Creative Commons” license. My personal favorite, however, is to go to Flickr.com and use the site’s Advanced Search features to pull up only Creative Commons licensed images (though even if you do take this route, you’ll still need to follow the artist’s instructions for providing proper attribution to any images you use).

Step #2: Resize Your Images Before Uploading Them to Your Website
Now, once you’ve got your image files downloaded, one of the best things you can do to improve your on-site image optimization is to resize your pictures to the precise size needed for your website before uploading them to your pages.
Here’s why this is so important…
Most website owners simply upload their original files and then control the size at which these pictures display by modifying the “height” and “width” parameters of their image source code. And while this might be easier to do on the fly, it means that your original, much larger image files are still hanging around on your server, taking up space, and putting an extra burden on website visitors’ browsers to resize these files whenever they’re loaded.
Essentially, when image files are set up in this way, the browsers that display them must first load up the larger files, then read the code that determines what their display size should be, and then resize the pictures for the designated display.
All in all, this extra effort—compared to simply resizing image files before uploading them—translates to slower load times, which counts as a negative against your website’s SEO. Google has emphatically stated that it wants to reward fast-loading sites, which is why taking the extra step of setting image files to the appropriate size up front is so important from an image optimization perspective.

Step #3: Save Image Files Using Keyword Descriptions
To edit your images to the appropriate file size, you’ll need to use an image editing program like Pixlr or SnagIt. And, while you’re in there, take the time to change your picture’s file name to your target keyword, which will add another tiny boost to your overall image SEO.
As an example, if you’ve downloaded an image file that’s named img_098234029384.jpg, renaming the file to read target-keyword.jpg will improve your image optimization. At the same time, it’ll make it easier for you, the webmaster, to manage the existing files on your Web-hosting account or server. It’s a win-win for everybody!

Step #4: Update Your Image’s ALT and Title Tags
As you upload your modified image files to your website, take care to update the ALT and title tags associated with each of your pictures according to image SEO best practices.
Now, contrary to some opinions, this doesn’t mean slapping an ALT tag on each of your images that’s structured according to the following formula: “keyword 1, keyword 2, keyword3 , etc.” That’s just an over-optimization penalty waiting to happen!
Instead, think about the original function of the ALT and title tags associated with website images. In fact, these tags weren’t created to give over-eager webmasters an extra chance to cram their keywords into the hidden nooks and crannies of every site. They actually came about so that website visitors using adaptive technologies (for example, visually impaired visitors using screen reading software) could make sense of all the content found on a webpage.
Take a cue from this original intention when it comes to optimizing your image ALT and title tags. Sure, go ahead and use your keyword phrase where possible and when it can be done without seeming forced. However, do it in a way in which your keyword is couched in a descriptive phrase that provides additional information to any and all website visitors, rather than simply stuffing these tags full of target phrases because there’s some SEO benefit associated with doing so.
When done correctly, adding appropriate tags to your website images can have two benefits. Not only does proper optimization support your site’s overall SEO (making it more likely to rank highly in the SERPs for your target keywords), you also stand to gain new Web traffic from the picture files on your website appearing in the Image Search results found around the Web.
Again, it’s a pretty great win-win for webmasters who are willing to put in the short amount of effort needed to carry out proper image optimization.

Step #5: Add a Caption to All Website Images
One final step that you’ll want to take when it comes to enhancing your site’s image SEO is to add captions to your website images wherever possible.
While this isn’t exactly a known SEO ranking factor, be aware that image captions are amongst the most-read pieces of content found on any website. Our brains naturally gravitate towards images, and once we’re there, we often feel compelled to read the text associated with these pictures.
As such, the content you add to your website image captions shouldn’t just be plain old text. If you have a point you’re trying to make with the Web content your pictures are associated with, do it here. This might mean filling image captions with the main points of your blog articles, with calls to action based on the area of your site in which they’re used, or even instructions on steps that your readers should take next. Whatever course you choose, just be sure you’re not letting this valuable space go to waste.
Again, the SEO implications of this practice don’t come from Google assigning a benefit to the presence of your target keyword in your image caption text (though this may occur, as well). Instead, know that Google values metrics like time on site and user engagement—both of which can be measurably increased by capturing reader attention with the use of effective image caption tags.
For all this description, the actual process of image optimization can be carried out fairly quickly, depending on the number and complexity of the picture files used on your site. If you have an extra hour or two on every given day, following the steps above can be a great way to give your site the fast SEO boost it needs to perform even better in the natural search results!

Facebook is the largest social networking website with more than 800
million users worldwide. In spite of such huge numbers, the fact is a
lot of Facebook accounts are fake. Official figures from Facebook say as
many as 8.7 per cent or 83 million accounts on the network are bogus.
About 4.8 percent of them are duplicate, 2.4 percent are
user-misclassified accounts and 1.5 percent are “undesirable” accounts.

According to Facebook India
business manager Pavan Varma, the social networking website is making
“huge efforts” to reduce these numbers and prevent misuse of such
identities. The official further reveals in case a dubious account is
found, Facebook will ask the user to provide his/her identification
details. Accounts that use a generic name instead of a proper name, use
images of celebrities/cartoon characters as profile image, or do not
have “enough friends,” may come under the Facebook scanner, says Varma.

"It could even be that Facebook comes back to you saying, could you help
us identify yourself if you don't have enough friends, because we don't
want fake identities. We are worried about the experience we
deliver...It's not about protecting our brand identity so much," he
said.

The Facebook official also acknowledged malware and other methods were used to create fake accounts and Likes.
Varma further said advertisers should not only focus on numbers. "How
does an advertiser today treat a Facebook page? It is treated as a place
where they just come with a number of people who are there. But that is
a wrong way of doing it," he stressed.

It's notable the social networking website has put in place several ways
to ensure it only has authentic users. Facebook allows users to verify
their phone numbers and also report accounts that seem bogus. To know

The maker of an application that would alert iPhone users to US military drone strikes said Thursday that Apple has repeatedly shot down his efforts to get it into the App Store.

"I just wanted to make a simple app that would send a push notification every time there is a drone strike," Begley told.

"I was thinking about how hidden the drone war is and about ways to play with what happens in the pockets of smartphone users," the New York University graduate student continued.

Begley hunkered down and made his first iPhone app, Drones+, which tracks drone strikes by aggregating information from a Bureau of Investigative Journalism database.

Reports of drone strikes prompt iPhone notifications that arrive with pop-up text messages; Google maps showing locations, and the option of more detail.

Begley said that Drones+ was rejected twice by Apple on technical grounds since he first submitted it to the Cupertino, California-based maker of iPhones, iPads, iPods and Macintosh computers in July.

A third rejection came this week, according to Begley, with Apple informing him that Drones+ would not be allowed in the App Store because many people were likely to find the content objectionable.

The 27-year-old interactive communications student expressed dismay that an application crafted to aggregate news reports could be deemed objectionable.

"I didn't really expect anyone to download the app if it was in the App Store," Begley said. "That was the point; I don't think people want to know when a drone strikes."

He is considering going to work on a version of Drones+ for smartphones powered by Google-backed Android software.

"I would like for it to exist somewhere," Begley said."

Adobe has overturned a decision to remove its Flash media player from Google's Android app store.

In early August, Adobe said its Flash Player plug-in for
Android was being removed because development of the code had been
halted.

However, pressure from UK "strategic partners" have made Adobe make the Flash Player available again.
The plug-in is only available via Google Play UK and would be removed again "soon", said Adobe.
"Flash Player continues to be available on Google Play for
users in the UK for a short while due to requests from strategic
partners," said a spokesperson for Adobe.

The BBC was one of the strategic partners that asked Adobe to
delay removal. Flash is the technology underpinning the BBC's iPlayer
application.

The BBC declined to comment on whether it had any involvement in Adobe's decision.

The BBC is known to be working with Adobe on an alternative video player that will make TV shows available on mobiles.

No date has been set for when Flash will be removed from
Google Play. Before its removal the plug-in was one of the most popular
programmes on the Play store.

Adobe's Flash is widely used on websites to help them display multi-media content such as videos, animations and sounds.

Adobe has put a disclaimer on the Google Play page through
which the Player can be downloaded on to an Android device warning that
the software was no longer being updated.

The warning said the Flash Player was only certified as working with Android version 4.0.x.
This means it will not work with the latest version of the
mobile operating system version 4.1 which is also known as Jelly Bean.

America’s population is aging, insurance enrollment is growing, healthcare utilization is increasing, and the cost of delivering medical care is rising. As a result, many companies in the healthcare industry are being challenged to serve more patients and members, to improve the quality of care, and to reduce operational costs. To do this, companies across the healthcare spectrum have started partnering with virtual service providers, including home-based medical transcriptionists, recruiters and call center workers.

The use of home-based call centers, in particular, is growing rapidly among healthcare organizations. Known as “homeshoring,” many leading healthcare organizations are using home-based customer care professionals to remain competitive in the current economic climate. In fact, a recent report from Ovum indicates that currently, healthcare organizations outsource 7% of call volume to home-based agents, and that number is expected to grow to 10% through 2015.

At a high level, the increasing use of home agents in the healthcare sector is being driven by the following three main benefits:
1. Greater access to specialized talent. The virtual model allows for companies to hire the best talent wherever it may be located. This enables companies to find professionals with specialized qualifications including pharmacist, physicians, nurses, or insurance specialists.
2. Lower operating cost. Virtual call centers have the obvious advantage of lower operating costs based on the simple fact that large physical centers are not necessary for service delivery.
3. Better operational efficiency. Many sectors of the healthcare industry are plagued with highly seasonal and/or unpredictable call volumes. Virtual @home centers handle these challenges with a scalable and flexible workforce that can be easily scheduled and adjusted to better match actual call volumes.

While virtual companies have shown they provide high value, information privacy concerns and strict security regulations are still preventing some healthcare executives from exploring the use of home-based agents. Sending patient and policyholder calls to remote workers does present unique security challenges. Fortunately, leading virtual contact centers have security systems and processes in place that help protect information in the cloud and deter misuse of sensitive patient data.

Preventing Unauthorized Access

To prevent unauthorized access of patient information, it is recommended that network infrastructures utilize industry best practices including, but not limited to:
• Back-to-back firewalls at the boundaries of the service provider and enterprise network infrastructures.
• Multi-factor authentication to ensure that network users are who they say they are.
• Controlled authorization, including role-based access control, to give access only to resources required to perform job functions.

Preventing Information Misuse

Another security factor to consider when using a virtual call center is the procedures in place to help prevent the misuse of information. After employees are thoroughly vetted, securing their home-office environment requires applying comparable layers of security as found in a physical call center but in different ways.

Below are some best practices for making the home-based arrangement as secure a possible:
• Locking down a computer to prevent information from being improperly copied, logged, transmitted or otherwise retained.
• Regularly installing system, security and anti-virus patches and updates.
• Verifying all operating systems, applications and security software are installed correctly and operating properly.
• Masking personal data by having customers enter sensitive information directly via the telephone keypad.

Lastly, it is strongly recommended to work with organizations who have achieved third-party validated compliance of HIPAA, HITECH Act and Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS) Level 1 certification.

Virtual service providers have been shown to be a highly effective and flexible way to place skilled professionals in healthcare jobs without the overhead of maintaining a physical office environment. Using the above security recommendations can help healthcare organizations of all types take advantage of a virtual workforce while remaining committed to patient privacy and data security.

The CDC’s Center for National Health Statistics (NCHS) has issued a data brief announcing estimates from the 2011 Physician Workflow Survey regarding the physician adoption of EHRs, which is sponsored by the ONC. Overall, in 2011, 55% of physicians in office-based practices had adopted EHRs and 45% had not. Differences were observed between physicians who were EHR adopters and nonadopters by age, physician specialty, practice size, and ownership. Generally, physicians under age 50 were more likely to adopt EHR systems than physicians aged 50 and over.

Dr. Farzad Mostashari, National Coordinator for Health Information Technology stated in his blog yesterday, "this data shows that EHRs are taking hold among a larger number of providers who believe that the use of technology leads to better, safer, more coordinated health care.” The findings reported that the majority of physicians who have adopted an EHR system (85%) were either very satisfied (38%) or somewhat satisfied (47%) with their system. About 15% of providers were either very dissatisfied (5%) or somewhat dissatisfied (10%) with their EHR system. The findings also reported that over two-thirds of adopters (71%) would purchase their EHR system again.

EHR Benefits

Physicians reported having accessed a patient’s chart remotely (74%) and having been alerted to critical lab values (50%) by using their EHR system within the past 30 days as some of key benefits of having an EHR system. A majority also reported that using their EHR system had resulted in enhanced overall patient care (74%).

Overall Key Findings of the study include:

In 2011, 55% of physicians had adopted an electronic health record (EHR) system.
About three-quarters of physicians who have adopted an EHR system reported that their system meets federal “meaningful use” criteria.
Eighty-five percent of physicians who have adopted an EHR system reported being somewhat (47%) or very (38%) satisfied with their system.
About three-quarters of adopters reported that using their EHR system resulted in enhanced patient care.
Nearly one-half of physicians currently without an EHR system plan to purchase or use one already purchased within the next year.
